The devastating earthquake in February had a major on the city of Christchurch an dNew Zealand as a whole. The initial damage to water and waste water was immense and resulted in over 150 emergency crews working around the clock to get things moving again. The water is now on but the waste water remains a problem with so much of the network severely damaged. In lieu of this damage and the significant amount of reconstruction ahead my client is looking for water and waste water specialists to join their team inChristchurch.

My client is a major contractor in theChristchurcharea with a major focus on water and waste water maintenance, repair and reconstruction. Much of the emergency work so far has been completed or coordinated through them and they will be significantly involved in future works on the water system. They are now actively searching for water experienced engineers to lead in the reconstruction of Christchurch. Ideal candidates will have experience of maintenance, repair or construction of water based projects and will be comfortable running one or more projects at any one time. Experience is the key to these roles as much of the work will involve using your initiative in a challenging environment. Key roles include;

    • Water Reticulation Engineers

    • Clean Water Engineers

    • Reconstruction Engineers

    • Contract Managers

    • Project Managers

    • Site Managers

It needs to be noted thatChristchurchis still effectively a disaster zone and it's likely to be 6 months or more before the city centre is reopened. You will regularly be dealing with a shaken but resilient public and so the ability to communicate well will be crucial as will a sense of humour. It's not doom and gloom inChristchurchby any means but it's important to remember that this will be a hard work. In respect of your commitment and experience you will be offered a competitive salary as part of an overall package. You will also have the chance to be part of a major event inNew Zealand's history and be part of a team puttingChristchurchback together.

We are familiar with international time zone differences and a significant component of our recruitment is from overseas, therefore we speak with overseas candidates most NZ mornings/UK evenings. If you require further information, please feel free to call Phil on +64 9 307 6113 and I will call you back. Otherwise please email me at pponder@catalystrecruitment.co.nz with your resume and telephone number and I will contact you.
