About the role
Our waterway network includes around 3,000 bridges across England and Wales. Could you help us look after all of them? Working within our Leeds-based Inspection & Technical team, you will use your specialist knowledge of bridges to investigate problems, carry out feasibility studies and prepare conceptual design solutions and briefs. You will also perform the role of technical expert, whether liaising with Highways Authorities regarding weak bridges or providing colleagues in other teams with vital support and advice. With nationwide responsibility for ensuring we meet all our statutory duties, this is an important role in the Trust and one where you can make a valuable contribution to preserving and enhancing our assets old & new.

We are very open to flexible working. You will also have the choice of being based in our Leeds, Wigan or Cheshire offices (although you will need to work from the Leeds office around two days a week).

About you
Our teams will be relying on you for expert advice. So it is essential that you have a degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline and Corporate Membership of a professional institution such as ICE or IstructE. Significant relevant experience is necessary, including experience of delivering complex engineering solutions and assessing infrastructure risk. Apart from your expert bridge knowledge, you will also bring experience and knowledge of historic infrastructure and the natural environment.

About us
One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings. We believe living waterways transform places and enrich lives. Helping us to achieving this vision will be a fascinating challenge, and offer you a opportunity to really make a difference. Why not come and be part of it.
