About the role

Our Civil Engineers are important to the success of the Canal & River Trust, managing a diverse range of national historical assets. As one of them, you will use your knowledge and experience to identify potential improvements and prioritise work. You will also be responsible for preparing specifications and briefing documents, and for providing colleagues with expert guidance and advice. It is an extremely varied and interesting role. And whether you are delivering innovative solutions or helping to define standards and procedures, you will be working to conserve and enhance our precious waterways for future generations.

We currently have a number of roles available across our North West Waterway network and Northern region and also in the South East and London navigations. For all roles, we are open to flexible working arrangements and can offer a range of options for where you will be based.

About you
Our teams will be relying on you for expert engineering advice. So it is essential that you have a degree or equivalent in a civil engineering discipline and at least graduate membership of a professional institution such as ICE or CIWEM. You must also have proven experience of applying engineering concepts, including ideally some experience of using GIS or mapping systems. Other key qualities we are looking for include strong communication and influencing skills and some previous experience of making formal presentations.

About us
One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings. We believe living waterways transform places and enrich lives. Helping us to achieving this vision will be a fascinating challenge, and offer you a role where you really make a difference. Why not come and be part of it.

To apply
We aim to represent the diverse communities we are part of and welcome applicants from across all sectors of the community. We strongly believe that a diverse workforce brings with it a diversity of ideas, thinking and ways of working which enhances what we do.
