The Principal Transport Manager, Major Projects role is pivotal in supporting the successful delivery of Swindon’s New Communities.  There are exciting major developments planned to come forward within Swindon, including (but not limited to) 4,500 new homes in Wichelstowe, 1,855 new homes at Tadpole Garden Village, 8,000 new homes at New Eastern Villages, 350 new homes at Abbey Farm and 1,650 new homes at Kingsdown, plus strategic town centre mixed use schemes such as Kimmerfields and the Corn Exchange.  

Given the significant scale of developments and the capacity to support Swindon’s long term economic growth, these major developments are of national importance and as such, benefit from significant government funding to pump prime transport infrastructure and accelerate delivery.

You will lead the Local Highway Authority’s assessment of transportation impacts associated with developments, negotiate substantial infrastructure improvements through Section 106 and 278 Agreements and act as the nucleus for all the considerations across Highways & Transport.

You will play a critical role in developing the business case for strategic transport interventions which will involve partnership working across service areas, in particular with Project Managers in the context of detailed delivery programme, managing consultants and direct budget responsibilities.
