Government to toughen up payment code in aftermath of Carillion

The government will strengthen regulations to tackle late paying customers, in the wake of Carillon’s collapse, business secretary Greg Clark told MPs today.

Carillion, which entered compulsory liquidation in January, has been accused of delaying payments to its supply supply chain, with companies waiting up to 120 days for invoices to be paid, despite the fact that it had signed the Prompt Payment Code.
