Here at Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) Ltd, our mission is to deliver a geological disposal facility (GDF) and provide radioactive waste management solutions. The GDF will be a highly engineered facility capable of permanently isolating higher activity radioactive waste deep underground. This is a high profile and complex project of national significance - vital for dealing with the UK’s nuclear legacy.
We are seeking a talented and ambitious individual who has experience in developing underground design solutions in a safety critical environment with the determination to tackle a range of engineering challenges. Joining us at a critical stage in the implementation process, you will have the opportunity to help shape our forward plans.
You will help develop our disposal system design capability as we move from a generic design phase into early stages of site specific design. You will be responsible for design assessments, undertaking feasibility studies and the delivery of engineering design solutions, including surface to underground connections and layout as well as working arrangements for construction and interface with disposal operations. You will work closely with our contracting partners to specify work and manage the delivery of key elements of our programme.
The important part you will play in demonstrating the design and engineering of a GDF will help us to build effective partnerships with communities interested in the GDF siting process.
Whilst some knowledge of the nuclear industry would be helpful, we are ideally looking for a mining, tunnelling or civil engineer with appropriate design and engineering experience. Responsibility for acting as the Intelligent Client for engineering design services will require you to have some experience of specifying and managing contracts of this nature. You will have a good first degree in engineering and hold Chartered Engineer and Member status in a relevant professional institution.
