Principal Highways Design Engineer / Project Manager

Fehily Timoney & Company (FT) is one of Ireland’s largest Irish owned consultants with centers of excellence in Civil Infrastructure, Waste & Resource Management, Energy, Environment and Data Management. FT provides design and contract management services for the construction of infrastructure projects such as roads, bridgeworks, rail, solid waste facilities, renewable energy, drainage, water and wastewater treatment facilities, airports, tunnels and gas pipelines.

FT is looking to recruit a Principal Highways Design Engineer / Project Manager to join our team in either our Cork or Dublin Office.  The role will support projects in the Infrastructure, Energy and Waste sectors. Candidates will be required to have a well-rounded knowledge of highway engineering and be familiar with the codes and standards used in Ireland and the U.K. It is anticipated that a suitable candidate would quickly move to Technical Director level.

The successful candidate will join an established company and will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, delivered under a number of procurement models. The candidate will have the opportunity to lead and grow the highways department and associated business.

Skills/Qualifications & Key Responsibilities:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 10 years post-graduate experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Good working knowledge of MX software. Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D an advantage.
  • Lead the highways design team, ensuring projects are delivered to the timescales, quality and costs agreed with the client.
  • Project Manage highways design projects.
  • Supervise and mentor senior and junior staff within the highways department.
  • Prepare technical reports and tender documents including bills of quantities and specifications.
  • Plan and manage CAD documentation of design work, working closely with Engineering Technicians.
  • Attend onsite meetings with the client and other professionals.
  • Complete engineering designs to the relevant standards.
  • Ensure compliance with our quality assurance and management systems and relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Coordinate his/her work with other members of the project team.
  • Candidate should be a high-energy professional with relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and analytical skills required.
  • Key attributes also necessary include efficient work methods, working both as part of team and on own initiative.
