Senior Advisor - Maintenance Requirements Team - (HIG01436)




Your new role

As a Senior Advisor in our Maintenance Requirements Team you will take on a diverse role focussing on the development and implementation of maintenance policies of all our assets, standards and best practices as well inputting into the Customer Service Plan. As a strategic thinker you will work well with internal and external stakeholders to advise the Major Projects and Operations Directorates on projects and schemes across the road network. You will also build and maintain close links with Department for Transport and the other government departments, acting as a subject matter expert for highways asset management. This is a role that will keep you involved in the smooth running of the strategic road network (SRN) and give you an insight into how Highways England helps to keep the Country moving.

The role will involve travel between Manchester and Birmingham on a weekly basis.

What you’ll be leading on

  • Develop the maintenance requirements across a range of Highways England assets, providing advice and guidance to resolve technical issues

  • Supervising associated work that is commissioned to external consultants

  • Build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across Highways England to understand their business needs and to set the future direction of maintaining and operating the network.

  • Ensure that technical solutions are appropriately documented and communicated to all stakeholders, to support implementation and to ensure the availability of audit evidence.

  • Provide an input into the Customer Service Plan to support deliverables and Key Performance Indicators

To be successful

  • Relevant qualification OR relevant work experience

  • Experience in Highways asset management

  • Ability to collaborate with others to set standards and implement best practices, whilst dealing constructively with setbacks.

  • Strong networking and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and present results.

  • Ideally some previous experience of working with DFT or other central government departments.
