At Norfolk highways, you will be part of a team delivering exciting capital programmes including large infrastructure projects across the county. We have opportunities to be part of the proposed Long Stratton Bypass team, and a programme of significant capital-funded improvement projects from within the 'Transforming Cities' programme for Norwich to be delivered from 2020 and completed during 2023.

Opportunities exist with both NCC and our consultant partner WSP. We are seeking candidates of varying levels of experience: from experienced highways professionals to enthusiastic school leavers looking to develop a career in highways.

Project Engineers – Responsible for leading and supervising a small specialised highway design team in the delivery of projects, you will demonstrate knowledge and experience in the design and delivery of a range of highway construction projects, including technical capability. You will be responsible for project management and ensuring all projects are being delivered in accordance with the programme and budget, ensuring that all risks are identified and managed. This is an important role delivering a range of high-profile projects, working closely with a wide range of stakeholders and ensuring that all necessary communications and consultations are well-developed and managed.

Engineers - Your role will be part of a technical team providing support and guidance to deliver safe and well-designed highway/civil engineering projects. You will take ownership of a range of small/medium schemes, or you will be the project lead for elements of larger projects. As an experienced engineer you will provide mentoring, guidance and advice to junior members of the team and deputise for the Project Engineer.

Project Technicians - Entry level roles with three gradings (Level 1, 2 and 3). Level 1 Technician will have, or will be willing to start, a recognised civil engineering qualification. Level 3 Technician will have more experience and will already have a National Certificate in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and achieved Eng Tech professional status.

Within Highways the WSP team are fully integrated working side by side with NCC in joint teams all focusing on the same objectives. We have a joint management team and WSP staff managing joint teams of WSP and NCC staff and vice versa.

There are a range of benefits working for either NCC or WSP such as flexible working, pension schemes and any array of other benefits.

Norfolk is a great place to live and work, with beautiful countryside, picturesque towns and villages and over 90 miles of coastline. Norwich is a vibrant city with excellent shopping, eateries and activities all weaved around a historic backdrop.

You only need to complete one application regardless of your interest in NCC or WSP. If you have a preference, please indicate on the application form. To ensure we comply with data-protection legislation, please can you email hrdirect@norfolk.gov.uk if you do not want your application to be shared with both NCC and WSP.
