Chair - The Disused Tips Authority for Wales
Chair - The Disused Tips Authority for Wales
The Welsh Government is establishing the Disused Tips Authority for Wales, an Arm’s Length Body due to become operational on 1 April 2027. The Authority will deliver a proactive management regime for disused coal and non-coal tips, protecting human welfare, safeguarding communities, and ensuring the resilience of critical infrastructure.
We are seeking an experienced and influential leader to serve as the Authority’s inaugural Chair. Working closely with the Board, Chief Executive and key stakeholders, you will provide strategic direction, oversee governance and performance, and ensure the organisation meets its statutory duties under the Disused Mine and Quarry Tips (Wales) Bill which is expected to receive Royal assent in September.
You will have significant leadership experience in an executive or non-executive capacity, ideally with previous chairing experience. A proven ability to operate at a strategic level, manage complex stakeholder relationships, and navigate high-profile governance responsibilities is essential. An understanding of risk management, emergency response, and the principles of good corporate governance will be important.
This is an opportunity to help shape a new national body from the outset, ensuring that the legacy of Wales’s industrial past is managed safely and sustainably for future generations.
Closing date: Midnight, 17 September 2025.
Remuneration: £337 per day plus expenses
Time Commitment: Up to 4 days per month (reducing to 2 days when fully operational)
