Senior Operations Manager for leading Water Contractor 

A leading Civil Engineering & Utilities contractor requires a Senior Operations Manager to lead it's Water division in the south-east. This contractor is a tier 1 organisation looking to continue their excellent relationships with their current clients moving into the AMP7 period.

Key Responsibilities:

• Management and control of the project management aspects of projects

• Encouragement and creation of a teamwork culture

• Responsibility for the project management functions

• Assistance in the procurement of subcontracts

• To maximise profitability working within the requirements of the conditions of contract

• Advice and assistance to  the operations team in the project management of NEC3 contracts and subcontracts, logging effective communications, monitoring periods for reply and reminding operation staff as necessary

• Provision of accurate and timely project reports and advice to the management team

• Maintain project information to the contract

• Ensuring the appropriate actions are taken to reduce or minimise commercial risk through the early warning and risk reduction process

• Advice and assistance concerning notification of compensation events, assessments and submission of quotations, and the contractual procedure to take contractual differences up to the point of dispute crystallisation where appropriate

• Advice and assistance regarding programme, acceleration, Key Dates and Completion Dates

• Mentor and encourage all subordinate staff in their personal and professional development

• As part of the overall management team take responsibility regarding health, safety and the environment

• Predict, offer support and advise on effective management of risk

• Seek opportunities to maximise value and minimise costs

• Provision of accurate project reports

• Monitor project performance against forecast

• Maintain records and report in summary in relation to compliance with the actions that the Employer, the Project Manager, the Supervisor and the Contractor are required to take under the terms of the contract

• Understanding of contractual requirements and recognition of variations as they occur whether formally instructed or otherwise and recognising the relevant conditions of contract

• Provision of project management related information as required

• Contribution to the effective management of NEC3

Experience and Qualifications:

• Substantial relevant experience covering project management and a sound understanding of project risks and mitigation measures

• Thorough understanding of NEC3 conditions of contract

• Demonstrable track record of work on NEC3 contracts being able to show personal contact with the actions required as part of the Contractor's or Project Manager's obligations under those contracts included in the track record

• Procurement of subcontractors


• Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (preferable)

• Degree in Civil Engineering (preferable)

• Registered with Institution of Civil Engineers as Accredited ECC Project Manager (preferable) or readiness to undertake examinations associated with attaining ICE ECC Project Manager Accreditation

• Relevant CSCS card

• Knowledge of company management systems including:

o Commercial reports

o Procurement

o Risk Management

• Contractual knowledge in various forms of contract

• Knowledge of current legislation
