Design Industrial Partner
UCL – CEGE invites expressions of interest from multi-disciplinary consulting businesses or consortia
of smaller organisations for the role of Design Industrial Partner. The Design Industrial Partner is central to the delivery of design education in CEGE’s unique problem solving based undergraduate programme.
A central strand of our undergraduate programme is design teaching and learning which is delivered
through a variety of problem-solving scenarios; commencing in Year 1 with group-working problem solving explorations of the principles of design, through Year 2 where undergraduates undertake
multi-disciplinary design projects and culminating in the 4th Year Integrated Design Project – this is
extends throughout the academic year and forms 50% of the student’s final year. The Integrated Design Project creates a simulation of a multi-disciplinary design office working on the design a major development project. It has been described by the Joint Board of Moderators as ‘the way all civil engineers should be educated’. Typical recent projects include, a 42 storey multi-use tower
on an extremely constricted urban site, an international port development, major railways extensions
and airport developments.
The Design Industrial Partner plays a central role in delivering tutoring/workshops and some teaching
and essentially passionate support for our students and their futures in the built environment
industries. The contract for this service will run initially for the period of 2018-2020 for a total gross fee of £42,000 per year.
